Kuangwei Hwang
Board Member
As an engineer by trade, Kuangwei has always appreciated aviation as the epitome of academia and engineering—a rare and perfect example of extraordinary human achievement literally taking flight. The fascination with aviation brings people together, brings out the best in us, and underscores why STEM education is so worth fighting for. He often questioned why learning to fly should be an expensive endeavor, and has invested and co-invested in bringing a wider range of superb and safe aircraft to Santa Monica. These include models from Cessna, Cirrus, and most recently, the first certified fully electric aircraft in the US, the Pipistrel Velis Electro, making aviation quiet, emissions-free, super safe, AND affordable.
Kuangwei brings with him a deep and diverse range of leadership, engineering, and aviation experiences spanning over two decades. His background includes roles as a Fortune 500 microprocessor design engineer, Magnificent 7 engineering manager, early startup engineer, founder and CTO.
His volunteer experiences include serving as Angel Flight command pilot, DART incident command pilot, and board member at the Santa Monica Airport Association. As a board member of Eco-Aviation, he aims to bring electric aviation to the mainstream and support the mission of green.
Kuangwei holds a private pilot’s license with an instrument rating.
